It’s so hard to argue against the medicalization of childbirth as so many are blinded by a medicalised society and can always find an example where the exception to the rule exists.. after all we have all heard of an old man of 90 who has smoked all his life and is as healthy as can be……does that mean smoking is ok? Healthy? Won’t harm us?

In relation to childbirth issues, this is the same argument (think about it) as some, but only a few…. Women and babies will need medical care and the help of amazing doctors and modern medicine……..

We are so lucky to live in a society that has that help to hand, round the corner, at the local hospital……

The problem is that the women and babies who really need help are in the minority, yet programmes such as OBEM make a normal society believe woman are broken and need saving from childbirth, when in fact the opposite is true.

In our western, healthy nation, in the main, we are powerful, amazing women capable of giving birth in our own way, without interference. If we work hard to get it right, we really could have the best of all worlds, doctors on standby in hospitals and the midwife in attendance protecting normality, the power, woman and child… but not interfering with the process.
